Shields add reliable, clean fuel cell backup power technology to their portfolio of telecom solutions.
Shields Environmental, a leading supplier of equipment and services solutions to telecom network operators world-wide, is pleased to announce a formalized distributor agreement with Altergy Systems, the premier manufacturer of hydrogen fuel cell technology used for backup power in telecommunications and critical power applications.
Altergy’s Freedom Power fuel cell technology is a cost effective, clean and reliable alternative to legacy battery and generator backup power. This strategic partnership will expand Altergy’s reach into several designated wireless and wireline markets in the Americas and Europe, achieving the goal of eliminating reliance on diesel generators and batteries, which require expensive maintenance and environmentally damaging disposal. Altergy’s CARB (California Air Resource Board) certified systems have longer run times and virtually no moving parts that require constant maintenance.
“There is no doubt every carrier will be using this technology for backup power in the next few years. With over 30 years of experience delivering sustainable, clean solutions for our customers, we feel that Altergy’s cutting edge technology is a natural fit for our customer base” said Bill Peardon, VP of Wireless Services for Shields. “With the Altergy solution, fuel cell technology is finally economical, and proven extensively in the field”.
“We are excited to work with Shields because of their deep experience in telecommunications” noted Michael Balter, VP of Sales for Altergy Systems. “They are a strong extension of our team as we look to grow our reach in wireless organizations”.
