Vodafone UK is creating a Single Radio Access Network (S-RAN) to simultaneously enable 2G, 3G and 4G technologies, as well as providing additional network capacity to meet increased customer demand, especially for mobile broadband.
Shields Environmental has been awarded the contract to apply their comprehensive whole lifecycle managed services solutions to the programme’s equipment redeployment, reuse and recycling requirements.
Nigel Troop, Supply Chain Management, Vodafone UK said: “Shields Environmental will help us to minimise total costs of ownership of our legacy network, maximise the reuse and recycling revenues, as well as managing our environmental and legal obligations in respect of retired equipment. This will enable my colleagues and me to concentrate on new equipment supply and successfully commissioning our new radio network!”
Shields Environmental’s Managing Director, Ruben Peijnenborgh, said: “We are delighted that Vodafone UK has chosen to work with us to manage the retired equipment from their S-RAN programme. This enables us to build on our partnership of over fourteen years in managing their legacy network and retired network assets with maximum financial efficiency and care for the environment.”
