Shields’ re-use business model enables us to support the telecommunication industry in creating more sustainable working practices. In addition to providing our clients with ways to reduce their environmental impact, we at Shields have renewed the focus on our own ESG commitments. We are pleased to announce we have recently achieved the Ecovadis Gold Medal.
Founded in 2007, EcoVadis is now the world’s largest and most trusted sustainability ratings provider and is used by global brands such as Johnson & Jonson, Nestle and Centrica.
Using a unique sustainability assessment methodology backed by international standards, EcoVadis creates scorecards that focus on four key sustainability themes: Environment, Sustainable Procurement, Labour and Human Rights and Ethics.
The overall score reflects the company’s sustainability performance in these areas and is marked out of a possible 100.
The highly desirable Gold Medal requires that the company attains a score of between 67 and 74 through the assessment process. A score of this calibre is only achieved by 5% of the companies audited by EcoVadis. This serves to validate the efforts and strategies put in place by the team at Shields.
“At Shields, we understand that having a great sustainability ethos across the business and its supply chain is key to the company’s continued progression,” says Kevin McHale, Shields’ QHSE Director. “We are delighted to have had our efforts recognised through the achievement of the EcoVadis Gold Medal. We intend to use this benchmark to enable us to continue to innovate and drive improvements that ensure both a happy workforce and a healthier planet.”
In addition to providing Shields with the information needed to continue improving the company’s overall sustainability strategy, this rating is also helpful for clients reviewing their supply chain. The recently published European Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence focuses on risk assessment in value chains, and the EcoVadis rating enables Shields to actively evidence sustainability credentials. “This achievement will allow us to give our clients a clear view of our commitment to sustainability and the effectiveness of our strategies,” explains Kevin. “This can give them the confidence that they have chosen to partner with a company that delivers on their business needs and contributes to their overall ESG commitments.”
